A new pretty picture. In Europe money was colored pictures. In America money was green God. You didn't mess with that money. They had G-men and the Hoover vacuum cleaner. Nothing colorful about that. It was etching not painting. The dollar was worth a lot in Europe and people wanted dollars. It was empire money. The English pound was big in it's day. I loved the vernacular like twopence, 50p, tuppence, shilling or hay-penny. The almighty dollar. Everything was good for me - an American. Had good embassies. I was respected, if recognized by the higher orders. Had good money. Had American Express. How wondrous is the world ?
I remember a phone booth in Vienna on the Danube. I liked the river, mostly I seem to remember hanging around the dark placid drift, a good deal like the Seine in Paris. It is raining. Had beautiful weather in Munich. Did not stay long. Do not like Germans.
I left Munich on Saturday arrived Vienna on Monday. Thought I would stay a week. I've gotten along fine since the fire. I thought I would be going to Salzburg and Innsbruck and then perhaps Zurich. This trip continued to be great. But I was sorry that the time was getting so short.
I camped outside of Vienna, over-something of a mountain and down the other side, at a going-concern camp-site. Each morning, heading up-hill to return to the city Vienna, I had to take a road of twisting and turning switchbacks, uphill through neighborhoods, which surprised me, since they were so-much like a middle class suburbs of America, with long, low one and two story fronts, behind medium lawns, shrubs and large trees.
