We also or she bought knee-high leather boots together, which I should have enjoyed in a little shop she took me. I stayed at a local city campsite where she came to visit one evening.
She was locked out of her hostel she said having returned past door-lock time. I wouldn't let her sleep with-me in my sleeping-bag. Was that the most bone-headed move of my entire career ? Where was my chivalry ? She had no place to sleep ? Where was my manors, my sympathy, my empathy, my gentlemanly courtesy ? Could any-one have ever-been more rude and discourteous than I was that night, locking her out in the dark, to wander the cold night ? And was repaid, with the same fate on my last night in Rome to come.
Actually I was remiss twice. I visited her in Chicago when I got home, and again I would not make the first-move. And neither did she, until it became uncomfortable, in that little deep-in-the-bowls Chicago back-room. I was a hold-out. And I did, until I was presented with a baby.
Now-recalling, I think I did more than just watch her buy boots in a chic-shop. Goddess did I love that. Oh - you had such wondrous long-legs. You pulled the leather over them and off-took. Did I help ? Could have been, now that it is mentioned. Or am I thrill-seek dreaming ? We may have visited Florential sites together. I am not sure of how much I knew of the Renaissance then. But just as well. Because thus : if I remember right, her-biggy in Florence, was the statue of David. I had to go and admire it with-her. She sat in reverence of it. What was this ? She looked and she read about it. I looked. How many had I seen ?
