The farm couple sat staring their mouths agape, watching this scene transpire below. They said not a word and when we got out of the way, the horses were strapped and they drove slowly to the highway, and we packed up our stuff and got out of there leaving them with something to tell their grand-kids.

The letter event I had not remembered one wit. We stayed in Amsterdam a week. It was a very good city. Prices were great. I do not remember what day we left by way of Bussum and Hilversum. Traveled up through Harderwijk and Zwolle, thru Meppel and Assen to Groningen. Holland is flat and green with many irrigation canals. It was quite dull but I liked it. They have paved bicycle roads running parallel with the auto roads. I was riding on the bicycle road and was coming to an intersection, and some guy on a bicycle thingamajig of some sort, pulled in front of me. We wound up in someone's front yard sliding through the grass and broke my rear luggage carrier.

A middle-aged Hollander fellow came out of his house, and Elsa told him what happened. I took the carrier off the scooter with a tool kit I carried in the glove compartment and he came out of his house with his bicycle to ride and off and have it welded. A few minutes later he was back and rode off in the opposite direction waving in confusion. An hour later I was on the road again my carrier fixed for less than fifty cents. These European people are really great.
