Andrew was a clerk in the main office and Simsays was the post office clerk downstairs with everyone's mail. They became my two best buddies after MaryJ left, and I kept the studio room and Andrew moved in with me for awhile to share the rent. We would motorcycle together. And it was at his suggestion that I bought a pair of Acme boots out of the mid-west for cycle riding.
MaryJ had known people, radical people from Antioch College Ohio, and there were that summer and fall, many anti-Viet Nam war demonstrations at the White House and she knew some of the organizers. However she was not that politically involved and I was not allowed, as in the military to attend demonstrations. But at that time I was not that anti-war anyway and would not have attended even if I could.
MaryJ and I attended the opening of a Beatles movie "Help" ! And it was not that crowded and we thought it was a great movie and went a second time to see it and the theater was near empty. There is no accounting for taste. But they were ramping up the Viet Nam war with films like the Green Berets, and PT 109 although there were a number of anti-war films as well.
So Andrew tells me the story of Whom. He was in clerk school in Georgia, and he was called out of class to the orderly room where on the phone was Whom - Washington DC here ! Welcome to HQs Army Yada Yada Yada. Andrew gets orders for DC and when he got there Whom was waiting for him. And his first working assignment for Whom he said, after hours in the rooms below the offices, Whom dictated to Andrew for typing - Whom's psychiatric report.
