Symbolic

The individual can know a friend quite well and be aware of their particular individual consciousness. Thus they can be concerned and empathize with this particular awareness, and as such change their own attitudes to accord to this concern. One could symbolically represent the consciousness of others by one's own thought, word and deed, as a lawyer would represent a client. The lawyer is not the client, but symbolically takes on their point of view and presents it in a court of law. The politician is a representative of a constituency of voters and thus is assumed to promote the interests of that particular body. The degree to which these representatives successfully represent these contingencies, is to the degree the politician is aware and understands the concerns and needs of those they represent.

The individual transcending Mundane Consciousness and assuming the identity of someone of Consequence, may want to understand what the problems, ramifications, implications are in the larger world than one's own, perhaps by seeking to understand those who hold positions of power and who must make decisions relative to those positions.

In terms of a much broader scale as the scope, of all human culture, or for that matter all existence, one is limited in how many people one can meet, know, and how much the variety of experience one can have. However it is possible to create generalized characterizations and experience as archetypes, based upon the unification and synthesis of commonalities, as a farm industry organization might represent all the various aspects of farming, such as production, financing, equipment, insurance, sales and distribution. The means by which this unification might be accomplished could be called Character Synthesis. This is the creation of symbolic characters based on the commonality of Consequence. The success of this synthesis depends upon the ability of the individual to understand the experience of others, through the unification of character types, such as the four primaries of soldier, priest, merchant and commoner.
