Why I was on Bayshore that particular night I can't remember. I almost never eat fast food, and I had never eaten at this McDonald's before or since. I pulled in after dark into the rear of the dimly lit neon parking lot. On my way in at the door a scroungy guy approached me. He looked to be mid thirties like homeless or a wino, medium height and build, baggy clothes. Asked me if I wanted to buy a VCR.
I said, "Whata ya got?"
He says, "Brand new, still in the box, hot, and I really need to move it".
I say, "How much?"
"A hunderd".
"No way too much".
"OK, OK, my friends and I are leaving town. Tell ya what. How 'bout fifty?"
I says, "Sorry can't do it". To emphasize my point I pull out my wallet and show him that I only have thirty dollars, and some of that I am going to spend on a hamburger and fries.
So he just turns and walks away.
On my way out, there he was again. He says, "I talked to my people and they won't do it. But I tell ya what. I'll do you a deal on the side. I'll tell them you paid fifty. But it's my deal - they don't need to know. I really need the money - now. I'll give it ya for twenty-five." So I says, "OK".
