I have only done that one other time in my life, and that was my first date with Sophia, a ten year companion many years later. But glorious she - didn't bother her a bit; like water off a duck's back.

I had to eat some place, and it was probably what may be called a Tavola Calda or cafeteria style, like where I could just go in and point at stuff, not knowing the language, and they would give it to me on a plate. Caldas were cheap and the food was pretty good. Since I was planning on spending a year in Europe, I had to watch my finances. The dollar bought a lot in those days except in Scandinavia. Stockholm was really expensive. But once on the road with my scooter, I pretty much cooked my own food at camp sites, for the entire trip. I was not about to spend all my money on restaurants. But whenever I had not the option of camp cooking, I used this style of eatery.

I do not know if it is the contrast from Greece, but this I think is the greatest city yet. I could have spent a year here easily. I was having a great time every moment. Rome was clean and a perfect integration of the old and new. I was having a marvellous time. I really did love it. The women were driving me out of my mind. I had seen some of the most beautiful women of my life.

Think after a week Fidelity left. We were sharing a room and since I did not want to pay the cost alone, I moved to a cheaper place. The only thing I remember was a small linoleum lobby with large windows on the street and a desk clerk who drank a large cereal bowl of coffee latte.
