From a radio show called "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon". "On King", "Mush You Huskies" ! I went out and did it, six in the morning across ice and snowed over swamp, a good deal of one winter. Now I knew the condition. I knew then if what they said was true. I was there in that time. So tell me all 'bout winter. I could relate to the Jack London tale - three matches to light a fire. I was the authority.

TV became almost immediately a three ring circus. The morning show was a new innovation, and a big thing with the advent of 'breakfast TV with Dave Garroway'. Then soon all three networks were doing the same thing. Before - three different programs to choose from: say a kids show, or Kukla, Fran and Ollie, and Our Miss Brooks. We had a choice. Then came Garroway and Author Godfrey and all three networks doing the same thing.

Of course a lot of us asked why, three shows the same, with different characters. Suddenly there was no choice. I remember somebody said it was marketing, like three gas stations at the same intersection. That was the businessman's special. I couldn't make sense of it myself. But it was a subject of discussion, at least where I was. They gave us three choices as one, the three-in-one package. "We give you three, count-em - for the same as one. What a deal." Indeed. Or do you get one for the price of three? I was of the latter consideration.

I liked the concept of the British London Bobbies, black uniforms and hats, right-fit, not to tight or too-loose tailored uniforms, very official, no guns, tourist guides and general all-round do what needs to be done.
