Now I was inside a bubble East; inside a bubble Berlin; inside a bubble East Berlin, walls to wall hearkening. I was inside the citadel. I don't remember being interested in anything except the wall. I spent at least a week looking at it, all over Berlin from the west-side. I was in the heart of the dragon and was going into the lair - East Berlin. After a week I went in. East Berlin you must purchase a minimum of 5 East German marks with 5 West German marks ($1.25). You must spend this in East Berlin. I bought a pork chop, a pack of East German cigarettes, some margarine and some cookies. So of course I went in. Why did I come to Berlin ? Why did I go to Bergen ? Why am I in Europe ? There really is no problem except for perhaps me.

Of course I had seen the films, very low budget black and white and amateur looking, of tunnels and various escapes, from the wicked which East. They were mostly of heroic tunnelers digging from cellar west to cellar East, and sneaky people were smuggled to the West in that way. There were always news stories of people shot trying to escape, although there was almost never any footage of real murder commitance before live cameras. Now-a-days all the shootings are not by guards, but by locals wanting out of living, not only jurisdiction.

Whatnot warriors. Crossing into East - Germany or Berlin, one had to zigzag through the angled buttress rail-road rails, tank traps directional on each side of the dividing line. They were not suppose to be worrying about anyone encroaching from the West. The West didn't do that.
