The Arch of Triumph in Paris was the mother of all traffic circles. It must have had a dozen roads coming into it. I had to go through there every time I went down-town. It was wide with maybe five or six unmarked concentric traffic lanes moving counter clock-wise and usually clogged with traffic. You came into it on the outer lane, which was jammed with all the cars coming on and going off. To get around to the other side, you had to maneuver into the more inner concentric lanes, where traffic flowed a little bit freer. Then approaching one's exit one had to maneuver back to the outer lanes arriving at the most outer, in time catch your exit. It was an art form. However the maneuverability and tiny size of the scooter was a big advantage.
I left Paris the 1st or 2nd on a Saturday with the girl from Washington State. We hitched to Bordeau the first day and slept in a field. We made San Sebastian, Spain the next day, and stayed the night at a camp grounds on a mountain. It rained all night and everything got wet so we left for Pamplona the next day Monday, and arrived about 3PM. Stayed at a camp grounds 6 blocks from the center of town for seven days. The camp grounds was an animal farm, a 24 hour drunk for 14 days, though most did not last that long. It was something else. I was disappointed in the actual Pamplona festival. The camp ground was all the fun.
I don't remember much of the above at all and I did not drink, but I have my own memories. I left my scooter in an alley where she was staying on Montmartre.
