Friday night I remember trying to get in Nicole's friends room by picking the lock. Some French people on hearing of our problem offered us money to sleep in a hotel. We did not accept and went to my river bank camp site. Saturday night, we went to the movies to see "BLOW UP". I did not have enough French money. Some French people gave me five francs (1 dollar) because they wanted me to see the movie. I have met some great people.

After that we stayed at the river camp, but don't think she stayed there long. From many Americans, I had heard so many warnings of the terrible French. Actually I found them to be of the best of people. Of course I did not act like the odious, "ugly American". Didn't take long to figure out, that what the French didn't like was supercilious people.

I was sitting on a walk bridge over the Seine River just down from Notre Dame. There were beats there who drew pictures on the cement with chalk and people would drop them money in a box or hat. I should try it myself I thought. That was the thing about Paris in the summer anyway, it just exuded the feelings of art. You just wanted to do artistry. It was in the atmosphere. I could understand the impressionist painters having been centered in Paris. I would hang out on the Left Bank around the The Cathedral of Notre-Dame.

My hair was getting very long and covered my ears. I had a beard also. However I was not out of place in Europe.
