There would have been no reason, other than I was tired of the rain and wet feet, and she gave me her address in West Berlin, but when I got there, I just didn't seem to be able to find it, although if it were a lot of trouble, I might not have looked all that hard.

On the way east from Bergen where I think it rained everyday I was there, over to Oslo, I took a long tunnel through a mountain, actually probably both ways, that was noted and reputed for its actualization of the engineering of impossible dreams. At least it was fairly dry in there, with only the water-drips and wet concrete pavement in intermittent places, with two track lighting, all along the vaulting like overhead trolley car lines. The tunnel was fairly narrow and at some point I came head-on with a very large and modern squarish tourist bus on a curve and had to emergency brake. There was no room for me to pass. I had to waddle backwards and wedge into a cranny, so that the bus could get by. As I was waiting, the bus pulled up and the driver's window was slid open, and Peter Lorre leaned out, and in a perfect Peter Lorre voice said, "You better be careful there. You might get hurt." I almost was killed by Peter Lorre. He must have enjoyed the characterization and certainly something to do for an otherwise ordinary guy.

After that I did have an accident in the mountains coming back. Broke my wind screen all to hell and hurt my ankle. The roads in Norway are the worst I have seen in Europe. I got caught in loose gravel on a curve and couldn't turn and had to dump the scooter or hit a rock. Driving in the rain with a windscreen is quite pleasant. Do not even get wet. But without - it is hell. And I hit rain all that day to Oslo. I had to buy another windscreen. Cost me $16.00. Had to have it.
