These imperatives are models for belief that are considered to be distinct, advanced, progressed or superior from what are thought to be more debased attitudes and perspectives. They act as authority for human thought, speech, activity and behavior. These imperatives are standards to which people should correspond in their beliefs, deportment and conduct such as charity, belief in God, belief in a divine savior, honesty, justice or law. To the extent that these imperatives are by definition exclusive, manifestations of a true sense of Compassion as the understanding of others conditions, perspectives and belief systems must be restricted. The absence or limitations of compassion may be illustrated by the religious intolerance and holy wars, by greed, avarice, arrogance, political wars and in general the conflict inherent with the materialism accordant to Excess and Profit.

Progressive Materialism with its emphasis upon Excess and Profit, and the utilization of human and non-human agencies as material for progressive advancement, must find a true sense of Compassion to be an inconvenience. In the system of Progressive Materialism the affections as feelings, love, hate, joy, sorrow, fondness, ecstasy, depression or passion are conditioned upon Authoritative Imperatives. These models are indicators for emotional content. On the other hand, an authentic sense of Compassion would encourage the development of a true sense of Love.
