Maybe he as a teacher in front of the classroom has to be an actor. He was great with people everywhere. I was an actor and I created a stage. The Professor did also, with his wife and a five-kid poetry road show.

Janice was his wife, the name of a Roman goddess, but she was certainly Herra - hearth and home and five kids. They gave many a dinner for us ragged rapscallion new worlders, well mostly the mighty cuisine endeavors of Jan. She said to me in much later years, that I was the first one that had ever treated her like a real person, or something to that affect. It was a revelation and changed her life. Where did she come from ? But that was what it was all about. The Professor was the ring master, entertainer and story teller. He had the most money. He had the station wagon which was often the transport of our motley crew. He was eight years older and a surrogate father to us all. He had the educational background. I was unorthodox-educated and radical. I was on the outer fringes of theory. I could compare my theories to the traditional - through the Professor.

I had read the book 'The Outsider' by Colin Wilson, maybe around the time I was travelling Europe. I thought it was a great book, maybe the only work of truly original philosophy of recent times. I had also read Sartre's Nausea around the same time, and associate it with Paris, not because Sartre was French but because I may have been there when reading it. I didn't think all that much of it. A particular mind state like depression, but no more valid than any other state of mind, like the happy hippie.
