Next to the locks on the camp side of the road, was a low metal black fence of the best taste, behind which might be a narrow avenue for tables, chairs and permanent city type benches. Behind that was a low grassy hill with trees spaced, and then up to another flat and another fence, behind which was four or five single story small shops. There was a coffee bar, a sort of general all around store, maybe even a Tailor shop, all of which serviced the campers and barge people. It was a fantastic place and one could sit there for hours in just the sensory - really like French impressionist feeling and ambiance - so relaxing.
It looked like rain so I went into Paris to get lost. I was going to try and find the American Express offices to see if I had any mail from my mother. No mail.
It was then evening and I had eaten a big meal. The rain was very slight. It was sunny late this afternoon. I went into Paris and didn't get lost even one time. Spent part of the afternoon riding around. Went to the famous tower. I walked around there and over by the Louvre and down by the river. Back at camp I was drinking my tea and smoking my pipes and was feeling very good. I did like Paris. It is as good or better than Rome. Rome and Paris are the two cities I like most and then Lisbon. Gibraltar was good too, but very small. The mountains of northern Italy, southern France, and northern Spain I like the most as for country. I thought I might stay in Paris a week but was not sure.
