I am in Edinburgh. It is quite a nice city. I really like it. The Edinburgh festival is just finishing. I just missed it, but everything costs money anyways.

Edinburgh : I'm a tourist here. I am immersing myself in it. I am mesmerized. I developed a tourist's mentality. You learned how to pronounce exactly certain foreign words, so as to prove you were a real tourist and not new to the scene and some fly-by-night package traveller. Actually in Greece I tried to pronounce Greek words with the sound that I liked and not the correct pronunciation, and when I spoke it they thought I was nuts like on a bus, until someone who spoke English interceded. Edinburgh was such a nice sounding name. Leaving England and entering Scotland. What was it ? Now I am in Scotland. Is this Scotland or is this England ?

I had read Stevenson's Kidnapped. Scotland was green I remember that - green, green, green and every shade. My memory of Edinburgh is brown sided buildings on green, grass-sloped hills and dark stone. Think this is where Stevenson was from. Treasure Island never had an appeal for me, pirates and Peter Pan-like all that. Maybe I had some association with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, which never all that much intrigued me. Got that one in Sherlock Holmes, "The Creeping Man", animal secretions for animal stamina - that for an old man courting a young woman, thought necessary such, and it would turn-him periodically into an ape. At my age - getting an inkling of the whole shebang not. The world of the book but which ones ? Can be such a waste of time, if not careful for shylocks.
