This one was the most fancy I had ever experienced, with big front windows and mountain views. For dinner most every eve, I had steamed potatoes and some kind of vegetable, and fried meat. With no refrigeration, it meant I would have to stop in markets everyday, usually in the villages for meat and bread, which were always in separate shops. European bread was great fresh but went stale over night and had to be bought daily. For the meat behind glass counters, since I did not speak the language, I would just point at what I wanted. The meat was not red like in America but usually gray. They didn't use food dyes. I would give them money and they would give me change. I didn't worry about paying too much. I wouldn't have known it anyway. I never had the feeling that I was being overcharged.
I made Voiron, Morestel, Boug, Tournus. I slept some-wheres between Tournus and Chalon - S -S. I slept at a public campsite in some small town. It was very nice and free. Sunday began cloudy and cold. I stopped early in the morning in some woods and cooked breakfast. It was a good thing. I stopped in a Shell station to have my gear box oil changed. I have come 1400 Kilometres. The station was operated by a young Frenchman with a beard and his wife. They had all kinds of hot water. I spent about an hour shaving and cleaning up. I drank a Pepsi Cola. I was told that the French were very rude and disliked Americans. I found the French to be great and only ran into one rude woman. I have also been told many times that France is very dirty. I found it to be beautiful.
