The ultimate biological scheme would seem to be those organisms that are in perfect harmony with the environment. Each and every organism must correspond in its biological makeup to that environment. Progressive evolution would only make sense if the planetary orbit were to progressively evolve into a more perfect orbit, in terms of a time ratio that would allow for living species to acclimate. If the parameters of the planetary orbit remain stable over the eons, an anti-evolutionary mechanism which insured that organisms remained in correspondence to environmental conditions would seem to make more sense. Any de-evolutionary or evolutionary changes which cause the planetary environment to change beyond the ability of organisms to adapt, will cause its destruction. A progressing environment cannot be considered as progressed if the organism cannot also change and adapt to the improved conditions.
The evidence contained in the earth's strata indicates that in certain
epochs only primitive life existed with more complicated forms being
found in succeeding layers of strata. This makes a compelling case
for the gradual evolution of species from primitive life forms. This would be the progressive evolution of very complicated animal forms from something such as single celled organisms.
However the question would seem to remain as to whether links exist between species, such as to show that all species originated in a single life form and evolved into separate branches or families of animals. These links are fossil types which are more developed than earlier and less developed than later types which are supposed to be of the same species.
For instance the Cro Magnum man was considered to be a link between human and apes because it appeared to be something in between. But it has recently been shown by DNA that it is no relation to the human species.
