It is the betterment of such things as improved medicines, health, education, sanitation, better governance, social programs and all the progress which can be made. Humankind as possessing inherent and common or inviolate integrity, is not only deserving of respect, social justice, human rights, and a decent standard of living and quality of life, but is considered the most important aspect of the planetary existence and pre-eminent. However the philosophy of Humanism is in conflict with the natural conditions of the world. Humanism puts humankind first and above all other existence. In fact no other existence has any real value except that of the human. This elevated status and the necessity to produce an improved social environment necessitates the greatest use of the natural resources, which then leads to a depletion of the natural environment.

Both Morality and Humanism are anti-environment because human life must always takes precedence over what is natural. The human population comes first. The concept of Humanism is a sustainable proposition assuming that the human population was a stable and economic means and policies were non-progressive. But by the philosophy of Humanism which includes nearly all of the world's religions, human life alone possesses value and is sacred, above anything in the environment. Because of the selective sanctity of human life, there exists the absence of prohibitions on the growth and development of an ever expanding population. Since there are no controls upon human procreation, with ever more and more people, and ever higher and higher demands on the environment in which people come first, in the end all human life will be reduced to the conditions produced by its destruction.
