HUMANISM

Humanism is a philosophy of human dignity which considers all human life to be equally deserving of respect, equality, social justice, human rights, and a decent standard of living and quality of life. Humanism is an admirable philosophy which dominates modern world culture. However the philosophy of humanism is incompatible with the philosophies of environmentalism and deep ecology.

The perspective of Humanism is concerned with the problems of human relations in terms of moral conduct, the ideal of which should be applicable to all humankind, and which transcends the Historical Morality of independent, diverse and exclusive moral codes which are codified in the many and various religious, cultural or political institutions. The concept of Morality itself, as distinguished from Ethics, is defined here as codes and laws for the regulation of human thought and conduct which are based upon the premises of Progressive Materialism.

From the Progressive Materialist perspective, every aspect of the material world to include humankind, possesses no inherent inviolate integrity of existence in and of itself, as safeguards against human exploitation, and thus may be used as material for the creation of human created states, with perhaps some degree of emotional sympathy, but without intellectual qualm. This absence of inviolate integrity and accordant prohibitions to the human utilization and modification, of virtually anything of the physical world, to include humankind itself, produces a need for a means of determining what and what does not possess inviolate integrity.

Based on the absence of transcendent moral standards in the physical world, Historical Morality has traditionally provided the means by which humans conduct themselves.
