See a person in real life or a friend and make them a character that in some way represents a problem I was working on. Making them a characterization gave them a credibility that their otherwise mundane persona would not have. My friend the Professor was by no stretch of the imagination a sailor, but he was a story teller, and he smoked at times the story-teller's pipe but never cigarettes. If I had a problem the Professor had a story, and we shared a commonality of American literature. He was an English and Literature teacher.

I went to a demonstration maybe - a lot of people up around Cathedral Hill. I didn't plan to pick up any women. Not something I was able to do anyway but a few times. I picked out two woman on this occasion from a distance. I did a mental profile on each. One would seem to have money, well dressed, sure of herself, but probably staid and predictable in some ways. The other was the opposite, probably a bit more on the wild side, mysterious and intriguing. I somehow met the first. I don't remember the details except that we ended up in a restaurant in China Town not that far away. She was from Berkeley and she wanted a backstreet boy. She was up front. She would see me, but would not tell me much about herself, and I would not be allowed to frequent with her, any-place where people might know her.

She was my Anka. It was the perfect deal for my submissive self in the flesh. It is what I fantasized. She was upper middle class and thus honourable, except I was to be treated like second class, not suited to her upper-world life and friends.
