Where are you now ? Standing in line in an American Express in Berlin ? American Express was a great service. Change your money and collect your mail. How great is that ? Made travel possible.
I had only five dollars in West German money left and I didn't want to cash a $100 travellers check, since the converted dollars might be confiscated by the East Germans
crossing back into West Germany. So I would be leaving Saturday or Sunday due south via the autobahn to Nuremberg and Munich. The Munich beer festival was over already so I thought I would be heading for Austria and Switzerland.
It was probably somewhere along in here that I read the book 'The Outsider'. Someone recommended it to me, but I can't recall when, where, why or who. I thought it was a great book. I guess I put it together with Hesse, Holmes, Sartre, Thoreau , Twain, or even Raven knows Poe. It was the scholarly outline of what I was doing, whether I realized it or not. The authorities didn't like that book. After initial positive reaction by media-philosopher kings, it was trashed, probably when the authorities suddenly got wise. The concept of the outsider - this doesn't fit with the program. It was trashed in trashland where everything is cashland. Stuck-out like a green-moon. So I paid scant-attention to the authorities. I was uneducated. I was a renegade in the swamp of muck and mire.
I didn't learn whatwas and whatnot, as was accepted truth. I had to figure it out for myself in the University of Museland. 'Truth or Consequences' that's the midnight-oil I read by.
