The definition of the term Conservative means that the pre-existent state is of greater consequence than any changes that could be produced by human innovation. The pre-existent state can mean the natural state of nature or any given pre-existent condition such as one's home, historical buildings, or parks and churches. Conservative persons are considered to have a non-progressive ethic and not merely to be incapable intellectually or ambition wise to the propensity of material progressive development.

Individuals who prefer a life style engendered by the adoption of Excess and Profit are termed Progressive. Progressive means that pre-existent states are changed for the purposes of improvement in such a way that the change is an addition of quantity or quality to human life. Progressive individuals desire to accumulate private property, personal and family wealth, perhaps social and political power or control of other people's lives. In a more altruistic vein, progressive persons may also wish to improve the culture in general as a benefit for all. Thus both the Conservative and Progressive types of individuals will be found in any society. Conservatives whether by choice or simply by impoverished circumstance will tend to found in less or undeveloped, poor communities as towns, villages, cities or agrarian circumstances. Progressives will be found almost anywhere, but almost always will possess greater economic means and circumstances such as the house on the hill, but mostly will congregate in the larger towns and cities, and especially where the most money is to be made and there exists some form of cultural elite.

Progressive Materialism is an attitude and philosophy of accumulating material assets. When the individual perceives the human condition in a materialist perspective, in any time and age, this attitude is engendered by the necessity for meaning and sense of self-worth which can only be achieved by the accumulation of talent, property, education, power and influence, refinement, education, fame or powers of charity, without which the person is considered to be worthless. Because of this propensity for material acquisition, progressives nearly always dominate and control every form of culture and society.
