A foundation is laid before a determination is made. Benefit of the doubt. The case is made here that there is a propensity for the individual to use both the Inductive and Deductive methods at any given time, but to rely and use one more than the other based upon the individual's attitude and consciousness, in terms of the Conservative or Progressive perspectives.

Foundation and Authority Reasoning parallel the means for establishing consequence and worth in the Progressive Materialist paradigm. The evaluation of value and consequence in the Progressive Materialist paradigm is by a method termed here the Dyadic Authoritative Comparative, which in essence is the evaluation of any quality, condition, circumstance or entity by comparison to opposite poles, or as what is natural and what is the opposite of natural as Ideal. For instance a person's looks may be evaluated by comparison as some degree between the ugly witch and beautiful angel. The value of a car is determined by comparison with the oldest and the newest. The worth of the individual is somewhere between a hobo and a honoree.

From the Dyadic Authoritative Comparative two propensities are apparent as the propensity to use a base or authority for determining value and consequence, as either the antithetical or Negative Base and the Ideal or Positive Base comparative standards. The method of primarily establishing consequence by adding from the Negative Base is termed Liberal Propensity. The individual evaluates their worth by comparison to those less than themselves, such as I am only a refuse worker but better than some minority, and not so much to those who are higher, such as I am so much less than a heart surgeon.
