In terms of Capitalist media, it can seem as if it is not much more than a propaganda vehicle to promote all aspects of economies and lifestyles that encourages market and commercial interests. Everything presented implicitly may be selling something. Propaganda is defined as any information which is propagated that presents singular perspectives which are self-seving, and thus do not consider alternative points of view. By this definition all advertising, most religion, much of education and science, news and politics, or a good deal of history may be considered as propaganda.

People engaged in the propagation of propaganda may not be aware of what it is they are doing. Propaganda can be couched in the concepts of good and bad, right and wrong, for the best and the good of any or all. By conventions of responsibility, one is obligated to present only what is considered and described as right and not what is wrong, the good and what is thought to be for the best. To present what is considered as wrong information would do a disservice and be harmful to the recipients. If opposing perspectives are discussed at all, they may be cast in a bad light, in the interest of the responsibility to inform of what is harmful.

People live their lives and make decisions based upon the information they have. Propaganda causes individuals to make decisions based upon the wishes of the agencies dispensing the propaganda, which can be a conscious endeavor, but may be most often unconscious. Propaganda is not limited to Capitalist media but is just as evident in any organization, culture or government particularly Authoritarian.

Where Capitalism is the predominant means of media, the educational system may be considered as lacking. Actually the educational system can only do so much. Learning continues throughout a lifetime. If the media is almost completely devoid of educational material, engages only in propaganda and uses most content merely as vehicle to promote agendas and sell advertising, then it can only be expected that the constituency will be somewhat undereducated, lacking in a rounded education, but which is the nature of propaganda anyway.
