Only entities capable of change and conformance potentially qualify for legitimacy. The outside authority as a model for conformance, is the control, dictate, example, evaluative measure and standard to which the original condition is to conform. When an original condition must conform to an outside authority as a progressed state for its validity of existence, which is not its natural to its development, then the outside authority is said to be authoritarian.

There are said to be two forms of reasoning called Foundation and Authority Reasoning. Foundation Reasoning means that conclusions are arrived at based on evidence, facts, demonstration, proofs, and data as-given and collected, from-which conclusions are derived. He was caught with the gun still smoking in his hand. Authority Reasoning means conclusions are derived wherein no evidence, facts or proofs are necessary, but conclusions are said to be self-evident that conform to authority. For instance God is an authority needing no evidence. Science says, sometimes without any actual evidence such as black holes. Authority Reasoning means that facts, evidence and premises are selected and disregarded based upon prejudice toward conclusions already reached or held, and which must conform to an existing authority.

Authoritarianism is wherein authority requires no explanation, no reasonable rational, no evidence, facts, demonstration or proofs. In this current day for two years the corporate media has claimed without any evidence whatsoever that a sitting president colluded with a foreign government and stole an election. The media is the authority and since all major media is in agreement, it must be true. Authority Reasoning is propaganda.

Authority Reasoning means that the conclusions of reasoning generally conform to Authoritative Imperatives. These imperatives are pre-existent conclusions that take the form of principles, standard, ideals, values, rule, law or propositions.
