But in terms of nature this is not really bad, but simply the results of natural processes, and it is up to the free will of the human, to avoid as best as possible, what is known to occur. Those that consider these natural processes to be bad and Evil and refuse to take responsibility for human self-inflicted misfortune, need a two source scenario ordinarily called God and the Devil. The origin of this concept comes with the adoption of Excess and Profit, when the exploitation of nature becomes a virtue, and humankind comes to need a scapegoat for its own vices unleashed with the pursuit of greed. The devil is the scapegoat for much of human crime. When the exploitation of nature is a virtue, then to defend nature is a crime and the defender may become associated with the devil. If nature and the true sorcerer are one, then each must defend the other.

If Metempiric Power is used by the shaman to heal, to intuit coming events, to prevent accident and tragedy or if it is used for personal power, another and perhaps primary purpose may be the pursuit of knowledge and to gain an understanding of the experience of living and the nature of spirituality itself. In terms of the use of power, what is termed Knowledge Access concerns a perspective of reality in terms of Consequence. Consequence is what makes the experience of reality real. Without Consequence such as pain, loss, death, effort or risk, reality would be equivalent to a dream. For the individual, the acquisition of the ability of Metempiric Power may accord to the person, a larger sense of self-consequence and worth than the person could otherwise know. They may accord to the transition from the Mundane to the Symbolic Consciousness wherein the Mundane may include low self-worth and esteem, helplessness, weakness, isolation, meaninglessness, absence of personal power or responsibility. If one discovers Metempiric Power, one can interpret this as some super aspect of the self. In this case the individual may become totally involved with the ego and pursue black magic. On the other hand if the power is thought to be derived from a source outside the self, this may be interpreted to mean that the individual is recognized by forces on another level that substantiate one's existence as more than a purely physical and material entity termed Spiritual Substantiation.
